Secret to Media and Press Coverage
報道(media or press coverage)のされ方や仕方は、近年ますます重要になっています。事実(fact)を伝えるということが重要ですが、事実は、英語のfact checkなどという用語がそのまま頻繁に使われるようになりました。いわゆるfake newsが容易に流されるからです。Professional PR servicesは次のように定義しています。
Press (or media) coverage is the name given for media attention and publicity received by a business, organization, or individual through newspapers, magazines, television, or online coverage, etc.
近年、ビジネスにおいては特に重要な要素として次のように述べています。

なるほどと思います。メディアが多様になり、それがどう注目されるかは報道によります。fact checkなどと言われるように、factを見極めるのはむずかしいということがよくわかります。新聞やテレビが本当に信頼できるかどうかは次第に困難になっています。
Media literacyが重要だともずっと言われていますが、それほど簡単なことではなく、ただ「教育が大切だ」と言うだけでは有効ではありません。事実を正確に伝えることとわかりやすさということを両立させることはほぼ不可能です。理由は、簡単です。社会が複雑になり、情報が多くなり、さらに、法律が複雑になり、すべてを正確に理解することには時間がかかります。報道は、それを可能な限り簡潔にする必要があるので、事実が欠落します。結局多くの人は、印象を大切にするか、ブランドを優先します。
このようなことは、今に始まったことではなく、同様のことは、規模は違いますが、江戸時代の瓦版などで広報したことと違いはありません。しかし、複雑になればなるほど誤解を生みます。AIはそのような人間の欠陥を補うには都合のよい機能です。機能と言ったのはどれだけ進歩しても機械だからです。singularityなどが近づいていると言われますが、やはり機械です。それ以上になることはないと思います。AIも人間と同様に正確な判断はできないでしょう。元のデータが必ずしも完璧であることがないからです。
正確な報道は困難です。自分自身の判断も間違えます。VUCAやBANIという用語がその背景を表しています。VUCAは「不確実性」ということですが、BiteSize learningによれば、次のように説明されています。
VUCA stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. Ambiguity means that there are many ways to interpret a situation.
また、BANIは次のように説明されます。

どのような情報も、このような時代に入っていることを自覚して判断するしかないのでしょう。しかし、考えてみれば、どんなに便利になっても、また、情報がglobalになってもlocalになっても、人間の機能自体は大して変わらないわけです。
